Bottlenecks May Affect Retailers Seasonal Support

Contributed by: Kelly Kamlager, Marketing Specialist

Today, I came across the word bottleneck when reading material handling industry headlines.

DC Velocity had a great post by industry veteran, Chris Kane, on Distribution in the retail sector. As retailers begin to ramp up for holiday season sales, bottlenecks in the shipping lanes and distribution centers can short the stock of stores and leave shelves empty.

The difficult economic times have forced last months have had many businesses to increase focus on eliminating waste and producing products in efficient environments. It is survival – tighten belts and “put noses to the grindstone.” While retailers strive to eliminate waste, they have to be cautious to still continue to support their stores and keep their products on the shelves. Just as we here at Wildeck are focusing on LEAN and more efficient means to manufacture our products. Coincidentally, Wildeck mezzanines, VRCs, and safety guarding products can increase the efficiency, safety, and capacity of retail distribution centers and stores.

When the prime retail holiday season arrives, we can all hope the headlines referencing bottlenecks will speak of significant improvements and increased retail sales. With proven material handling solutions from Wildeck, the season can really be bright.
